MESA, Ariz. – Seattle University baseball's Sean Sutton was named to the Western Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team following Saturday's championship game at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz.
The junior first baseman was just one of two players selected to the 11-member team who did not play in the championship game. In three tournament games for the Redhawks, Sutton went 5-for-10, including a double and a homr run, one RBI, four runs scored and two walks drawn.
Seattle U, the sixth-seed in the six team tournament, fell 11-0 to eventual WAC Tournament Champion Sacramento State in their opening game, but bounced back for a big 11-9 win to eliminate Utah Valley. In that game, the Redhawks rallied from a five-run deficit by scoring seven unanswered runs. Their young and stretched pitching staff eventually succumb to a 10-4 elimination loss to CSU Bakersfield on Friday.
The Redhawks finished the 2017 season at 20-35-1 overall. Three seniors will depart the program - Griffin Andreychuk, Connor Moore and Aaron Stroosma.
