SEATTLE - (May 6) The track and field team closed out the regular outdoor season at the Ken Shannon Invitational, held at the University of Washington, on Saturday.

Several members of the team ended their season with hard-fought races, according to assistant coach Chad Pharis. This was the last meet before the Redhawks head to the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships.

While not everyone on the team competed Saturday, there were a few standouts.

Quotes from coaches:

Head coach Trisha Steidl on Rebecca Lassere: "Becca ran a strong race. She was boxed in the first two laps, which were slow, but once she got out and around those folks, she ran a great second half. It would've been easy for her to just run out because she knew she couldn't make up the time lost in the first two laps, but she ran hard and got a decent time in the end. This race may not have been the result she wanted, but it highlighted her tenacity."

Steidl on Louis Rodrigues: "In only his second race this outdoor season and with only a few weeks of training under his belt, Louis ran a smart, strong race to improve upon his time from last week. He's doing a great job learning from each experience - both workouts and races - and building upon them."

Pharis on Renee Soliman: "Renee had a great series as she continues to build on the previous week. She should be in a great place for Conference."

The track and field team heads to the WAC Championships in Edinburg, Tex. to compete from May 10-13. We'll have daily updates on GoSeattleU.com and Twitter (@goseattleu). You can also get information on the WAC's Championship Central page HERE
