BELLEVUE, Wash. - (Apr. 25) Seattle U baseball dropped a 7-4 non-conference decision to cross-town rival Washington Tuesday night at Bannerwood Park.
Knotted 4-4, the Huskies scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth on an RBI-single by MJ Hubbs. AJ Graddanino led off the inning with a four-pitch walk and Jack Meggs followed with a single up the middle that pushed Graddanino to third. That set up the Hubbs RBI-single through the right side that sent the winning run across home plate.
The Huskies added another run on a sacrifice fly and an RBI-single to pad a three-run lead before Seattle U's final at-bat.
Zach Wolf (0-7) took the loss after giving up the winning run in the ninth. Greg Minier moved to 1-1 on the year with his win in relief for the Huskies.
The UW (22-16) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second and the Redhawks (13-25-1) answered with one run in the home half of the inning.
Both teams would go scoreless through the next three frames before the Huskies added a fourth run in the top of the sixth.
But Seattle U would answer. Dalton Hurd delivered a two-out RBI-double to left center in the bottom of the sixth and Austin Lively launched his first career home run - a two-run shot - over the right field fence in the seventh to tie the game, 4-4.
The teams would go scoreless in the eighth despite the Redhawks loading the bases with no outs.
The UW broke through with the three-run ninth and Seattle U could not answer in the home half.
The Redhawks remain home at Bannerwood Park this weekend, hosting UNLV in a non-conference three-game set beginning Friday, Apr. 28 at 5 p.m.
