DENVER – (Apr. 25) Seattle U has been selected as the favorite to win the 2017 Western Athletic Conference men’s golf title in a vote of the league’s head coaches, who could not vote for their own team.
The Redhawks, who placed second last year, received all six possible first-place votes for 36 points. UMKC, the defending champion, picked up the remaining first place vote and second place with 28 points. NM State, the champion from 2013-15, was selected third with 27 points. Utah Valley was fourth with 22 points, followed by UT Rio Grande Valley (15), CSU Bakersfield (13) and Chicago State (6).
The 2017 WAC Men’s Golf Championship tees off April 28 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The course first opened in 1997 and was redisgned in the fall of 2003. The redesign improves upon perfection by lengthening the total yardage to 7,050 from the back tees and expanding the fairways to be enjoyable by players of all skill levels.
