SEATTLE (April 17) – Seattle University women's basketball has announced the addition of McKenzi Williams to the Class of 2017. Williams is a senior guard at Auburn Riverside High.
Williams joins Maddie Dopplick, Leilia Orji, Leilani Peat, Makenna Schoenhofer, and Kallin Spiller in Coach Suzy Barcomb's group of newcomers for the 2017-18 season.
“McKenzi has the speed, quickness, and athleticism that are essential to being successful on the floor,” said Barcomb. “McKenzi will put in the work necessary to make an impact in our program. We're excited to have local talent stay in Seattle and become part of our program.”
A guard, Williams was named 4A North Puget Sound League Olympic MVP this season. she averaged 19 points, 7 assists, and 5 steals per game. Williams helped Auburn Riverside win back-to-back league titles and qualify for the state tournament in 2016 and 2017. She was named first team all-state as a senior and picked up first team all-league recognition three times in her career with the Ravens.
In Barcomb's first season, the Redhawks exceeded expectations, finishing second in the WAC and advancing to the WAC Championship game. Seattle U earned a spot in the WNIT, making its third Division I postseason appearance.
