PHOENIX - (Mar. 25) The Seattle U men's tennis team conference opener proved to be a back and forth affair with the Redhawks unable to secure some key points as they fell to the Vaqueros 5-2.

After the teams split the first two doubles games, the third game proved to be a key turning point as Trenton Nield and Adrian Sanabria fell to Koby Jansen and Clement Sarradin 7-5. With the loss, SU did not earn the pivotal doubles point.

In singles play, Matt Alderson and Jeremiah Kalmus were bright spots playing in the no. 5 and 6 positions, respectively. Alderson defeated Andres Hernandez 4-6, 7-5, 10-6. Kalmus beat Mateo Schmit 6-2, 6-4.

Head coach Adam Reeb was pleased with his team's performance given the circumstances.

"Today was a very close match," said Reeb. "The guys battled hard and we were right there. It was our first outdoor match of the year, and we've just got to take the positives from this match and learn from our mistakes and come back better tomorrow.

This is a resilient group and I know they will bounce back tomorrow."

The men return to the court tomorrow afternoon in Phoenix as they face yet another conference opponent in UMKC with a start time of 1:00 p.m.
