WHERE THEY STAND
With three games remaining on the regular-season slate, Seattle U enters Thursday’s match-up with UTRGV with a 4-7 WAC record, which is good for fifth in the league standings. CSUB holds down first place (10-1), New Mexico State is second (9-2), Grand Canyon is third (8-3) and UMKC is fourth (7-4). Seeding for the WAC Tournament in March, which will feature seven of the league’s eight teams (Grand Canyon is not eligible for postseason until 2017-18 due to their NCAA DI transition process) will be determined by the regular-season standings. The first day of tournament action pits No. 4 vs. No. 5, No. 2 vs. No. 7 and No. 3 vs. No. 6. Tournament play begins March 9 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

THE LATEST
An upset bid attempt against WAC leader CSU Bakersfield came up just short, 51-48, on Feb. 18 in the Connolly Complex. Seattle U held the ‘Runners to more than 20 points below their season scoring average, but were held to a season-low in points themselves. The Redhawks are now 0-7 when scoring less than 60 points. They are also 0-8 when shooting below 40 percent from the field. Rebounding and second-chance points allowed have been crucial in the Redhawks’ last two games. In the two setbacks combined, Seattle U was out-rebounded 95-64, including 32-8 in offensive boards. The latter mark has led to a 34-9 differential in second-chance points in a pair of games that ere each decided by three points (61-58 vs. Grand Canyon, 51-48 vs. CSUB).

ABOUT THE SERIES VS UTRGV
Seattle U won 96-84 in this season’s first meeting against UTRGV, Jan. 28 at KeyArena. The Redhawk offense was on fire from the opening tip as they led 53-40 at the half. Seattle U shot better than 62 percent for the game, led by a career-high 33 points from Zack Moore. Brendan Westendorf added a career-high 29 and William Powell tied his then career high with 22 points.

Formerly known as Texas Pan American, Thursday marks the ninth meeting between Seattle U and UTRGV, with the Redhawks holding a 6-2 series edge. The teams split the home-and-home series in 2015-16, as Seattle U won 70-59 on Jan. 23 in KeyArena, while the Vaqueros defended their home court with a 67-57 win in Edinburg, Tex., on Feb. 18. The teams went on to meet in the first round of the WAC Championship Tournament where the Redhawks got 23 points form Brendan Westendorf in a 75-52 final.
