The softball team will compete at the Bronco Classic, hosted by Santa Clara, this weekend. The Redhawks will face Montana twice and Santa Clara three times.

SEATTLE (Feb. 16) – Seattle University softball travels to the Bronco Classic for five games this weekend. On Friday, Feb. 17, it will play Montana at 1:30 p.m. and host Santa Clara at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Redhawks face Montana at 1:30 p.m. and then Santa Clara at 4 p.m. SU closes weekend action with another contest against Santa Clara at 12:30 p.m.

SU (0-5) opened the 2017 season at the Kajikawa Classic last weekend. It held No. 9 Oregon scoreless for the last six innings of their game, dropping a tight 4-2 decision. Paige Bouska hit .389 with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored in five contests.

Montana (2-3) competed at the UNI Dome Classic last weekend, beating South Dakota State and Toledo. Bethany Olea led the Grizzlies with a .625 batting average, including a home run, three doubles, five RBIs, and four runs. MaKenna McGill batted .563 and scored six runs on the weekend.

Montana was picked to finish third in the Big Sky preseason poll. In 2016, Olea earned first team all-conference honors and the Grizzlies placed fourth in the regular season standings.

Santa Clara dropped a home doubleheader to UC Davis on Feb. 11. The Broncos lost a pair of tough contests, falling 2-1 and 2-0. Micaele Vierra threw a complete game, allowing no earned runs on five hits. Aubree Kim went all seven innings in the second outing, giving up one earned run on seven hits.

The Broncos were voted to finish sixth in the West Coast Conference preseason poll.
