SEATTLE (Feb. 4) - The Seattle U men's tennis team earned its third victory of the season Saturday afternoon by defeating the George Fox Bruins 6-1 at the Tennis Center at Sand Point. John Stormans and Jeremiah Kalmus performed particulary well as both earned two set singles victories with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-0, 6-2 respectively.
The Redhawks earned a clean sweep in doubles play as Matt Alderson and Trenton Nield were able to hold off Spencer Watanabe and Alex Namba of George Fox with a 7-6 victory.
Assistant coach Matt Look was pleased with the team's all around effort. "It was a solid effort all around today," said Look. "We wanted to start strong and match their energy in the doubles. Matt and Trenton battled the whole way and rewarded the team with the doubles sweep. Workmanlike effort across the board in the singles matches. Looking forwar to doing it again tomorrow."
Fellow assistant Justin Roe shared Look's sentiments. "Proud is the best word to describe the way our men played tonight," said Roe. "In doubles, our 2's and 3's came out and really set the tone for the match. First doubles showed great determination to win in a tiebreak - and we took that momentum and carried it over in singles. We've been working on putting together a complete match and it's nice to finally see it happen."
SU hosts Pacific Lutheran tomorrow at the Tennis Center at Sand Point at 1:00 p.m.
