VANCOUVER, Wash. (Jan 27) - After earning a hard fought split with the Montana State Bobcats last weekend in Eugene, Ore., the Seattle U men's tennis team (2-4) recorded its most impressive victory of the young season, defeating Portland State (1-2) 4-3 Friday morning.
The victroy came in large part due to gritty performances from senior John Stormans and freshman Alex Chan. After falling down 3-1 in the match, Stormans refused to allow the Redhawks go quietly. He fought off three match points to keep their comeback hopes alive. Needless to say, head coach Adam Reeb was extremely proud of his senior from Olympia, Wash.
"John Stormans was amazing," said Reeb. "One of the gutsiest efforts I've ever seen. This is what college tennis is all about."
However, Stormans was not the only Redhawk to provide a much needed spark. Freshman Alex Chan clinched the match in a 3-3 situation by defeating the VIkings' Sam Larson 6-3, 6-4 in straight sets.
Overall, Reeb could not be happier with his team's resiliency and wants to make sure they enjoy this win before turning their attention to the University of Portland for tomorrow's match.
"I'm so proud of these guys," said Reeb. "We're going to enjoy this one for a bit then get ready to play a very tough Portland team tomorrow."
Their match against UP starts tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. and will take place at the Louisian-Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore.
