SEATTLE (Jan. 21) – Seattle University women’s swimming defeated Simon Fraser, 119-84, on Saturday afternoon. Blaise Wittenauer-Lee and Paige Treff both won two individual races to lead the Redhawks in their final home meet of the season.
“We came together as a team,” said Coach Craig Nisgor. “We got a lot of good stuff done today. We got done what we needed to get done.”
In the 50 freestyle, Treff recorded a time of 23.89, winning by 1.6 seconds in the sprint. Her time is the fastest by a Redhawk in the event this season. Treff also won the 100 freestyle with a 53.79 performance.
Wittenauer-Lee was terrific again Saturday, claiming victory in the 400 IM and the 100 breaststroke. Her 4:27.60 time in the 400 IM blew away the rest of the field as Wittenauer-Lee won by nearly nine seconds. In the 100 breaststroke, she recorded a 1:04.07 to roll to victory.
Celeste Salopek was the winner in the 100 backstroke, tallying a 59.87 to touch ahead of teammates Katie Rottman and Maddie Dickman.
In the 500 freestyle, Madi Lydig’s 5:05.38 was enough to win easily and post a season-best, beating the rest of the field by almost five seconds.
The 200 medley relay team of Salopek, Wittenauer-Lee, Overstreet, and Treff won, swimming a 1:48.32.
“Blaise looked really good,” said Nisgor. “Paige had some really solid swims today and Madi put herself in good shape for conference rankings.”
Saturday marked the last home meet for eight Redhawk seniors.
“The seniors made the program what it is,” said Nisgor. “It’s been phenomenal. They demonstrate to the underclassmen what it means to be a member off this team, in and out of the pool.”
SU heads north for a return date at Simon Fraser next weekend. The final regular season meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, Jan. 28.
