SEATTLE (Jan. 7) - Seattle University women’s swimming handled Whitworth, 193-67, Saturday afternoon. SU claimed the win in all 12 individual races on senior day at the Connolly Complex.

“Our seniors swam well,” said Coach Craig Nisgor. “They’ve been putting in the time over a great four years and we’re excited to see how they finish up here.”

The Redhawk senior class led the way Saturday, as six members of the group won races. Blaise Wittenauer-Lee won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Kaitlyn Overstreet touched first in the 100 and 200 butterfly. She led a 1-2-3 finish for SU in the 100 fly, beating out Paige Treff and Maddie Rapp in the contest.

In the 200 fly, Kate Sabourin, another senior, finished second. Kristin Hoffman was the winner in the 100 and 200 freestyle. Annika Perry claimed victory in the 200 IM, while Emma Foster won the 1000 freestyle, posting a 10:52.48 and winning by over 20 seconds.

Katie Rottman was a two-time winner Saturday. She posted the winning time in the 200 backstroke, as Jayna Van Stone and Maddie Dickman took second and third, respectively. In the 100 back, Rottman edged out Madi Lydig by .12 seconds with a time of 1:00.01.

Sabourin took second in the 200 butterfly and Sidney Pinger finished second in the 100 freestyle.

Lydig took first in the 500 freestyle, giving her three individual wins on the weekend. Treff won the 50 freestyle as well. The 400 medley relay team of Celeste Salopek, Wittenauer-Lee, Overstreet, and Hoffman also won, topping the rest of the field by over seven seconds.

“Overall, it was pretty good today,” said Nisgor. “We’re tired, but we’re really pushing ourselves. I think that’s going to set us up well for when we get rested.”

The Redhawks head to Air Force for a pair of meets with the Falcons and Northern Colorado next weekend.
