NEW YORK (Dec. 14) – Kyle Bjornethun of Seattle University men’s soccer has been invited to the 2017 adidas MLS Player Combine. Coach Pete Fewing will serve on the coaching staff at the event, held Jan. 8-12, 2017 in Los Angeles.
From the MLS release-
“Top collegiate players from across the country will showcase their talents in front of representatives from all 22 MLS clubs in Los Angeles, CA from Jan. 8-12, 2017. All invited players will be eligible for selection in the 2017 SuperDraft presented by adidas which will take place at 3 p.m. ET/12 p.m. PT on Friday, Jan. 13 at the LA Convention Center in conjunction with the NSCAA Convention.
A committee of MLS coaches and NCAA Division I coaches from every conference selected the invitees, all of whom completed their college eligibility this season. Further invitees including Generation adidas signings, non-collegiate players, and additional college seniors will be announced in the coming weeks.”
Bjornethun, a senior from Snohomish, Washington, is one of 53 NCAA Division I players invited. He earned WAC Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season in 2016. Bjornethun was a three-time All-WAC First Team selection and the 2013 WAC Rookie of the Year.
"I'm thrilled for Kyle," said Fewing. "I'm excited for him to get the chance to showcase his talents for all of Major League Soccer."
Fewing will be head coach for one of the four teams at the combine. He recently finished his fifth season as the Redhawks’ head coach, guiding SU to 11 wins and a second-place finish in the WAC standings.
"I'm really pleased to have the opportunity to work at the combine," said Fewing. "It's a great experience to work with some of the top coaches around the country."
