SEATTLE – (Nov. 30) Seattle University Athletics is excited to announce a new multi-year agreement to continue playing home men’s basketball games in KeyArena at Seattle Center.
“KeyArena has been a great venue for our men’s basketball program and we are thrilled for the opportunity to continue to compete in the heart of Seattle,” Director of Athletics Shaney Fink said.
“KeyArena and Seattle Center are excited to continue our relationship with Seattle University Athletics and be home to Division I college basketball.” said Seattle Center Director Robert Nellams.
The program called KeyArena its home more than 30 years ago, playing games in the facility from 1963-80. The Redhawks played their first game downtown on January 1, 2009 - a 49-39 win over Loyola Marymount University.
A seven-year partnership was in place starting in 2009-10. During the first full season of calling KeyArena home, the Redhawks went 10-3 in that 13-game home slate.
The 2016-17 10-game slate at KeyArena is set to begin this week as the Redhawks kick off an eight-game home stretch. First up is a Thursday, Dec. 1 meeting with Northwest University. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
“Our relationship with KeyArena has been great for our program,” said Seattle U Head Coach Cameron Dollar. “We look forward to continuing to work together in the years to come.”
The KeyArena slate continues Sunday as SU hosts Eastern Washington in a rematch of a double-overtime meeting on Nov. 22 in Cheney, Wash. Additional games at KeyArena during December include Dec. 19 versus Southern Utah, Dec. 22 versus Washington and Dec. 28 versus UC Davis.
Western Athletic Conference play kicks off the New Year and the Redhawks will host UKMC on Jan. 12, Chicago State on Jan. 14, New Mexico State on Jan. 26, UTRGV on Jan. 28 and Utah Valley on Feb. 4.
Single-game tickets for all 10 KeyArena games, as well as season ticket packages starting at $55 are available online or by calling the SU Athletics ticket office at 206-398-GOSU (4678).
