SEATTLE (Nov. 19) - Seattle University women’s swimming took down Pacific Lutheran, 137-64, Saturday at the Connolly Complex. SU won nine of the eleven events on the day, led by Blaise Wittenauer-Lee with a pair of victories.
“We had some really good swims today,” said Coach Craig Nisgor. “The team was dealing with some illnesses and they swam a few different races (than normal) today and I thought we performed well.”
Wittenauer-Lee continued her standout season, winning the 100 IM and the 100 backstroke. She won the 100 IM with a time of 58.60 and then was victorious in the 100 backstroke with a 59.43 race. Celeste Salopek and Kaitlyn Overstreet took second and third, respectively, in the 100 backstroke.
In the 200 freestyle, SU took the top three spots, with Salopek, Madi Lydig, and Emily Gough recording strong showings. Salopek swam a 1:57.99 to touch first.
In the 100 butterfly, Overstreet, Maddie Rapp, and Gough went 1-2-3 for the hosts. Overstreet won with a time of 58.98, inching out Rapp (1:00.49) and Gough (1:00.92).
Kristin Hoffman won the 100 freestyle, posting a 54.46, just besting Jayna VanStone, who logged a 54.75 time for second place.
Lydig was the winner in the 500 freestyle, registering a season-best 5:11.18 to win the event by over 10 seconds.
“Madi had a good day for us,” said Nisgor.
Annika Perry won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.55, topping Margaux Thompson, who took second with a 1:09.27 performance, a season-best.
“Annika continued her strong season in the breaststroke today,” said Nisgor.
The 200 medley relay team won, posting a time of 1:48.20 on their way to victory.
SU also won the 200 freestyle relay, as the team posted a time of 1:41.61 to win the race.
SU heads to the Husky Invitational for its next meet on Dec. 2-4.
“We’ll look to have some great swims there,” said Nisgor. “We hope we can continue the strong season we’ve had so far. Try to keep the times going.”
