SEATTLE - (Nov. 2) It will be a busy spring at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, Wash., as the announcement of the 2017 Seattle University baseball schedule unveils an exciting 34-game home slate, along with numerous key road series as the Redhawks seek to defend their Western Athletic Conference regular-season title.

"After winning the WAC Championship last season, this year's schedule was very important to us to continue to play a quality schedule to prepare us for defending our title,” said Head Coach Donny Harrel as he enters his ninth season at the helm of the Redhawks’ program. “Our 34 home games gives us an opportunity to match or beat our school record in 2016 of 24 home victories. We will also play a lot of outstanding out of conference teams this year, so we should be looking at another very challenging season.”

Fans will get to see a lot of their Redhawks early in the year, beginning with an opening weekend, four-game series against SIU-Edwardsville Friday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 19.

Following the season-opening homestead, Seattle U heads to Minneapolis to face the first of five opponents who competed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The Redhawks will take on the University of Minnesota in a three-game series Feb. 24-26 in the brand new US Bank Stadium - home to the Minnesota Vikings. The fixed-roof stadium has a capacity of 66,655.

“We are particularly excited about traveling to University of Minnesota and playing a top 25 team in their new dome,” said Harrel. “All in all - our schedule will be a tough, but I feel we have the team that can handle that type of challenge."

The Redhawks return home to host a 13-game homestand that begins Feb. 28 versus Portland. Series with Sacred Heart (Mar. 3-5), Pacific (Mar. 10-12) and UC Irvine (Mar. 17-19) follow, along with a midweek against Indiana State (Mar. 8).

A pair of midweek games at Portland on Mar. 21 and 22 wrap up the bulk of Seattle U’s non-conference slate.

WAC play gets underway with back-to-back home series against Chicago State (Mar. 24-26) and New Mexico State (Mar. 31-Apr. 2). Additional home series include Sacramento State (Apr. 21-23) and UNLV (Apr. 28-30). The Redhawks will also host midweek affairs against 2016 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Washington (Apr. 25) and Arizona State (May. 16).

The home slate, and regular-season, concludes on May 17-20 as Seattle U hosts defending WAC Tournament champ and NCAA qualifier Utah Valley at Bannerwood Park.

The 2017 WAC Tournament will be contested May 24-28 in Mesa, Ariz.
