CHICAGO - (Oct. 27) Freshman Katarina Marinkovic had her second career night in the last three matches and the Seattle University volleyball team outlasted Chicago State, 26-24, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25, 16-14 Thursday night in Chicago.
Exactly one week since recorded a career-high 26 kills, Marinkovic notched her first 30-kill outing while also adding 13 digs for a double-double. Her 30 kills came on 64 swings and just six errors as she hit .375 for the match.
Joining Marinkovic in double figures were Mila Duarte with 17 and Shae Harris with 11. Splitting time at setter, Kerry Lane and Harris had 32 and 28 assists respectively.
Juma Armando had 20 kills to lead the Cougars (3-21, 1-8 WAC), while Brianna Stewart and Dzeni Hadzisehovic added 13 and 10 kills, respectively.
With the match tied at one set apiece, Seattle U (12-11, 5-5 WAC) used a strong finish in set three to take a 2-1 lead. Trailing 19-18 late, Marinkovic put down a kill to tie the score, then served for the final six points as the Redhawks won 25-19.
After dropping a back-and-forth fourth set, Seattle U clinched the match by winning the final two points on kills by Marinkovic and Duarte.
The final road trip of the season wraps up at Western Athletic Conference rival UMKC Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Pacific.
