Despite a 6-1 shot advantage in the first half, Seattle U would not score until the second frame. Sergio Rivas broke through for the Redhawks in the 52nd minute, taking a crossing pass from Isidro Prado-Huerta and sending in a shot from 10 yards out. The goal was Rivas’ third of the year.
The Roos tallied the equalizer in the 73rd minute and the teams headed into extra time.
Seattle U generated five shot opportunities in the first 10-minute overtime frame, but UMKC goalkeeper Filippo Errico came up with four big saves to keep the Redhawks off the board. SU had three more chances in the second OT, but could not find the go ahead goal, settling for their first tie of the season.
Back home on Championship Field on Sunday, SU will host Grand Canyon at 6 p.m. in a match that will air live on the WAC Digital Network.
