LAS CRUCES, N.M. - (Oct. 14) Relentless attacking produced a pair of second-half goals for Seattle University women’s soccer as it remained perfect in Western Athletic Conference play with a 2-1 win at New Mexico State Friday afternoon.

The Redhawks (8-5-1, 3-0-0 WAC) finished with 17 total shots, including 10 in the first half, but would have to wait until the second frame to jump on the board.

“I continue to be happy with the amount of chances we are creating in front of the goal,” said SU Head Coach Julie Woodward. “It took us a bit to get one in the back of the net, but I was happy with our persistence."

For the second straight game, Ayana Robles and Hannah Carrothers teamed for a goal, this one coming in the 53rd minute of play. Carrothers picked up the assist on Robles’ second goal of the season to give SU a 1-0 lead.

Less than seven minutes later, Rosalie Sittauer made it 2-0 Redhawks when she scored her first goal of the season off a corner kick assist from Brie Hooks.

“Ayana and Hannah gave us a big spark in the attack in the second half, said Woodward. “We also had multiple players rotate in today and I felt that they all contributed.”

The Aggies (4-10-1, 1-1-1 WAC) trimmed Seattle U’s lead in half in the 80th minute on a Stephanie Petre goal, but NMSU would not get another shot off, finishing with just four chances on the day.

In her fifth appearance and first start of the year, Mackenzie Curry improved to 4-0-0 in goal for Seattle U.

The Redhawks complete the two-game WAC road swing Sunday afternoon at UTRGV. Kick off from Edinburg, Texas, is set for 1 p.m. local,, 11 a.m. Pacific. The game will air live on the WAC Digital Network.
