DENVER – (Sept. 30) Seattle University's Michelle Lui has been named the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Players of the Month for September.
Lui, a junior from Bellevue, Wash., led the Redhawks at the Whitman College Fall Invite, Seattle U’s lone competition in September. She won the Blue Flight (top flight) singles draw as well as the Blue Flight (top flight) doubles draw alongside partner Kali McCollister. Lui was rarely challenged as she never allowed an opponent more than three points.
"Michelle continued to work really hard this summer and it has shown early on this fall as she is playing very good tennis," said SU Head Coach Adam Reeb. "She came out this first tournament and played confidently and smart.
"She had an impressive first tournament but the great thing about Michelle is she is just humble and hungry and just focused on getting better," added Reeb. "I'm excited to see her continued growth and progress as a leader of our team."
Next up for the Redhawks is a duel against Pacifith Lutheran at 11 a.m. on Oct. 8 at the SU Tennis Courts.
Other nominees included: Hannah Pangestu of Chicago State posted a perfect 4-0 record in doubles for the month of September … NM State’s Gabrielle Joyce finished third in the gold flight singles and won doubles at the Aggie Invitational … Tara Donaho of UTRGV went 2-1 in singles play at the Islander Open.
