SEATTLE - (Oct. 1) Seattle University women’s soccer turned in dominating offensive performance Saturday night at Championship Field, resulting in a 1-0 shutout of Utah Valley.

The non-conference match yielded the Redhawks’ fifth shutout of the season, while moving the team to an even 5-5-1 overall. The Wolverines fell to 6-4-1 on the season.

“We’ve put together four great games heading into conference play,” said SU Head Coach Julie Woodward. “I like where we are and we will keep improving. Tonight we got a great team effort, were competed and had fantastic work ethic. We played a great complete game.”

The Redhawks earned a 9-3 shot advantage in the first half, but the two teams went into the break knotted in a scoreless draw.

Out of halftime, UVU’s Breanna McCarter had an early shot, but sent the ball wide of the goal. In the 55th minute Isabelle Butterfield had a shot blocked by the Wolverine defense, but the chance resulted in a corner kick for SU.

Karli White sent a ball into the mix from the left corner where Hope Fleckner settled it in the middle the box. Unable to get a shot off herself, Fleckner tapped the ball to Butterfield who scored from six yards out for her first goal of the season.

SU finished the match with 14 shots, including four by Natasha Butterfield and three by Butterfield.

Ashely Routh made one save in goal during her 45 minutes of action in the first half. Mackenzie Curry came in for the second half of play for the Redhawks, making one save and picking up the decision in her second appearance of the year.

Western Athletic Conference play is up next for Seattle U as they host Grand Canyon Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. on Championship Field.
