BOX SCORE

SEATTLE - (Sept. 25) Battling all the way until the final horn, including a flurry of shot attempts in the final seconds, the Seattle University men’s soccer team fell just short of a valiant comeback in a 2-1 final to the Washington Huskies Sunday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.

Trailing by two goals, junior Tyler John gave the Redhawks (4-4-0) new life with under two minutes to play. John headed home a cross from Sergio Rivas at the 88:31 mark, sparking a flurry of action down the stretch.

SU found itself back in the Husky box as the final 10-second countdown began. But multiple attempts to find a hole in the UW defense were blocked as time expired.

UW (6-2-0) got on the board at the 27-minute mark as Handwalla Bwana scored into an open net after a flurry of action pulled SU goalkeeper RJ Noll off his line.

The Huskies made it 2-0 in the 54th minute when Elijah Rice scooped up a loose ball on the right side of the box near the six, and sent in a half bicycle kick that knocked off the far post and into the net.

John nearly got SU on the board in the 83rd minute with a volley shot near the six off a cross from the left wing by Kyle Bjornethun. But UW goalkeeper Auden Schilder made a great grab, one of his three saves on the night.
