SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - (Sept. 25) Seattle University women’s soccer had one of its most dominating offensive games of the season, but the oft referred to “unlucky” element of soccer stepped in as the Redhawks dropped a 2-1 decision to Cal Poly Sunday afternoon.

The Redhawks (4-5-1) peppered the Mustangs (5-5-1) with 25 shots, including 13 on frame, during the match, but would come away with just one goal.Cal Poly finished with 10 shots, four on frame.

“We obviously would have liked to come out of the match with a win, but interestingly enough, we played some of our best attacking soccer in the final third that we have played all season,” said SU Head Coach Julie Woodward. “Karli scored a brilliant goal and many players created good chances. Games like these are hard because you want to focus on the development and improvement we are seeing as a team, but it’s also frustrating to not get the result.”

Cal Poly struck first, just 5:15 into the match, as Jessica Johnson sent a through ball to Caitlin Kruetz, who slotted home her fourth goal of the year.

Seattle U responded at the 14:39 mark on Karli White’s first goal of the season. The sophomore striker dribbled into the box and beat CP goalkeeper Sophia Brown to the right, evening the score at 1-1.

Brown would not allow another ball to pass her by for the remainder of play, turning away 11 Redhawk shots to preserve her team’s win.

Cal Poly’s eventual game-winner came off the foot of Ashely Kirchick in the 34th minute.

White finished the day with five shots, including three on goal. Ayana Robles, Hope Fleckner and Rachel Bowler all had three shots each.

The Redhawks warp up non-conference action Saturday at Championship Field, hosting WAC rival Utah Valley at 7 p.m. The match will not count in the league standings.
