LAS CRUCES, N.M. - (Sept. 22) A thrilling comeback run fell just short for Seattle University volleyball as Western Athletic Conference play began Thursday night.

Facing off against the preseason league favorite New Mexico State on its home court, the Redhawks (7-7, 0-1 WAC) rallied from two-sets down to force a fifth set. The decider would also come down to the wire as a Matea Mamic and Kory White block had the Redhawks one point down, 14-13.

But NMSU (10-4, 1-0 WAC) would put down the final point in the Pan American Center sending SU to a 16-25, 15-25, 25-23, 25-21, 13-15 final.

Behind 10 kills each from freshmen White and Katarina Marinkovic, the Redhawks hit better than .300 in each of the final three sets, including hitting at a 421 clip in the fourth set and .545 in the fifth.

Iris Ivan’s finished wth 13 digs while Maja Stojanovic had a match-high seven blocks as SU earned a 13.0-8.0 advantage at the net.

The Aggies’ Jordan Abalos finished with a match-high 21 kills while Tatyana Battle and Sasha-Lee Thomas had 16 and 13 kills, respectively.

WAC play continues Saturday as the Redhawks travel to Edinburg, Texas to face UT Rio Grande Valley. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m local, 10 a.m. Pacific. The match will stream live on the WAC Digital Network.
