SEATTLE - (Sept. 21) The 2016 Western Athletic Conference slate begins this week for Seattle U volleyball as the team travels to preseason favorite New Mexico State on Thursday and UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS
• Seattle U closed out non-conference play with a 7-6 record.
• The Redhawks went 2-1 last week at the Rutgers Invitational, taking straight-set victories from Seton Hall and the host Scarlet Knights. The win over Rutgers marked the program’s first-ever win against the Big Ten opponent.
• Matea Mamic earned her second All-Tournament selection of the season at the Rutgers Invite. Shae Harris was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
• Matea Mamic leads the WAC, and is ranked No. 37 nationally with 4.15 kills per set. The senior outside hitter also ranks in the nation’s top 50 in total kills (195, No. 40), total attacks (525, No. 48) and points (215.5, No. 47).
• Iris Ivanis is averaging 4.66 dps (second in the WAC) while Maja Stojanovic and Kory White both average more than a block per game - 1.23 and 1.06, respectively.
• Matea Mamic and Maja Stojanovic were named to the All-Tournament Team of the Ultra Ankle Challenge.
• Seattle U was selected third in the 2016 Western Athletic Conference preseason poll.
• 2015 All-WAC selection Matea Mamic was voted to the 14-member Preseason All-WAC Team.
• Head Coach James Finley enters his fourth year at the helm of the program. Under Finley in 2015, the Redhawks had their best season yet, going 18-11 overall and 9-5 in WAC play.
• SU returns seven letterwinners, including four starters.
• The 2016 SU roster has true international flavor as six different countries are represented on the 14-member squad. That includes the United State (five different states), Canada (three different provinces), Serbia, Croatia and Peru.
ABOUT THE AGGIES (9-4, 0-0 WAC)
NM State enters the week with a 9-4 overall record. The Aggies concluded non-conference play with a 3-match sweep at the Brown Invitational in Rhode Island. Jordan Abalos leads the squad with 3.66 ops while Sasha-Lee Thomas, Kassandra Tohm and Tatyana Battle add 2.78, 2.76 and 2.69 kps, respectively. NM State was the preseason favorite to win the 2016 WAC Championship, earning six of the eight first-place votes.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST NM STATE
Seattle U is 1-7 all-time against the Aggies. The lone Redhawks win was a 3-1 victory on Oct. 4, 2014.
ABOUT THE VAQUEROS (9-5, 0-0 WAC)
UT Rio Grande Valley enters WAC play with a 9-5 overall record. The Vaqueros have won four of their last five matches, including a 3-0 win over Prairie View A&M on Tuesday. A trio of players average more than three kills per set including Ragni Steen Knudsen (3.83 kps), Bojana Mitrovic (3.20 kps) and Alisha Watson (3.12 kps). Three players also average more than one block per set including Mitrovic, Barbara Silva and Alexandra Ecker.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST UTRGV
Seattle U is a perfect 6-0 against the Vaqueros. Last season, SU won in four sets in Texas and earned a straight sets sweep in Seattle.
