SEATTLE - (Sept. 18) Four different players scored Sunday afternoon at Championship Field as the Seattle University men’s soccer team ran away with a 4-0 shutout of visiting Davidson College.
The Redhawks (4-3-0) owned a 19-2 shot advantage over the Wildcats (1–50) and scored twice in each half to put the match away.
“We played a very good day and to get the shutout was great for us,” said SU Head Coach Pete Fewing. “It was good to get four goals and get all those guys not he field. We have learned from our mistakes and never let up today. Everyone who came on the field gave us energy.”
Jeff Rose got the scoring going early, putting away his second goal of the season just 6:41 into the run of play. After Sergio Rivas’ shot was block saved by Davidson goalkeeper Andrew Kenneson, Rose raced to the rebound just outside the six and knocked in back across the goal line.
SU’s second goal began with a David Olsen shot that was blocked by a Wildcat defender, but deflected to Julio Rubio, who one timed the ball from the top of the box at the 33:18 mark.
Holding a 2-0 lead and a 9-1 shot advantage at halftime, Seattle U did not let off the gas. Goal number three came in the 77th minute as Ramos sent in a short cross to Olsen from the left flank. Olsen found some space between a pair of Wildcat defenders and sent a shot from the left side of the box high into the near post.
Medo Youssef capped the scoring in the 85th minute when a saved shot by Ramos popped back out into the box. Challenging Davidson goalkeeper Sam Bissett, Youssef headed home the fourth and final goal.
The Redhawks are off until Sunday, Sept. 25, making the short trip up I5 to Husky Soccer Stadium, facing crosstown rival Washington at 5 p.m.
