2016-17 MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE
SEATTLE - (Sept. 7) Coming off back-to-back postseason appearances over the past two years, excitement continues to build for the 2016-17 Seattle University men’s basketball season. A first look at the 2016-17 schedule is highlighted by 16 home games for the Redhawks, including six in the newly renovated Connolly Complex.
“Over the last two years, we have had fantastic experiences playing in the postseason and having those games contested on campus,” said eighth-year Head Coach Cameron Dollar. “So we’re excited to be bringing six regular-season games onto campus this year, making it easier for students to attend the games and to provide a different kind of environment. Having both venues provides a great balance for us.”
Seattle U’s season opener tips off the home and Connolly Complex slate as the Redhawks host Pacific Lutheran on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m.
The Redhawks then hit the road for the remainder of November, beginning with a huge road trip to Colorado (Nov. 14) and Notre Dame (Nov. 16). The games, both part of the 2016 Legends Classic, offer SU an early test of their mettle.
Colorado, whom the Redhawks defeated in the second round of the College Basketball Invitational in 2015, were a 2016 NCAA Tournament team. Perennial power Notre Dame reached the Elite Eight in 2016.
The November road swing continues with a match-up against Louisiana Monroe (Nov. 21) in Cheney, Wash., followed by a meeting with either Bryant or Eastern Washington (Nov. 22) in the final game of the Legends Classic.
SU wraps up the road trip at Central Florida on Nov. 26, then returns to Seattle for an eight-game December home stand, including five games at KeyArena and three on the Connolly Complex.
Northwest University (Dec. 1) and Eastern Washington (Dec. 4) visit KeyArena before the Redhawks host Great Falls (Dec. 10), Arkansas Pine-Bluff (Dec. 12) and Mississippi Valley (Dec. 15) in Connolly.
The home stretch concludes with Southern Utah (Dec. 19), Washington (Dec. 22) and UC Davis (Dec. 28) at KeyArena. SU will close the books on 2016 at UC Santa Barbara (Dec. 30), before ringing in the New Year with Western Athletic Conference play.
League play begins on the road at 2015-16 WAC Tournament champion and NCAA Tournament team, CSU Bakersfield (Jan. 7). The Redhawks’ home WAC contests are slated for Jan. 12 (UMKC at KeyArena), Jan. 14 (Chicago State at KeyArena), Jan. 26 (NM State at KeyArena), Jan. 28 (UTRGV at KeyArena), Feb. 4 (Utah Valley at KeyArena), Feb. 16 (Grand Canyon at Connolly) and Feb. 18 (CSU Bakersfield at Connolly).
“We’re very excited about our non conference schedule and expect it to prepare us for the WAC,” said Dollar. “And our schedule as a whole is going to do the job for us in preparing us for March.”
The 2017 WAC Basketball Tournament returns to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the seventh consecutive year and will be contest Wednesday, March 8 through Saturday, March 11.
