SEATTLE - (Sept. 1) Seattle University women’s soccer makes its return home this week, facing a pair of key Pacific Northwest rivals over the holiday weekend. On Friday, the Redhawks make the quick trip up to Washington’s Husky Soccer Stadium to face the Portland Pilots in the first match of the Husky Nike Invitational. Kick off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
SU’s Championship Field debut follows on Monday, Sept. 5 as it hosts crosstown rival Washington at 7 p.m. in the final match of the Invitational.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS
• SU is 2-1 on the year with a pair of 1-0 victories and a 1-0 defeat. The Redhawks have earned wins over Texas and Boise State while the setback came at the hands of San Jose State.
• Senior transfer Brie Hooks has scored both goals for the Redhawks, including a converted PK with two seconds remaining against the Broncos.
• Ashley Routh has played all 270 minutes in goal, posting two shutouts and making five saves.
• Stephanie Spiekerman was named WAC Defensive of the Week on Aug. 22 after playing the entire 90 minutes in the 1-0 shutout win against Texas (Aug. 19) as a center back. She held down the SU backline, limiting Texas to just one shot on goal despite 17 total attempts.
• The Redhawks begin this season as the co-favorite to finish atop the Western Athletic Conference standings in a preseason vote of the league’s eight head coaches.
• Three players were also named to the 11-member Preseason All-WAC Team, including sophomore forward Karli White, redshirt sophomore midfielder Isabelle Butterfield and junior defender Stephanie Spiekerman.
• Seattle U went 14-3-3 overall and 8-0-2 in WAC play in 2015, claiming the 2015 regular-season title before falling to UVU in the championship match of the WAC Tournament.
• The Redhawks return six starters from last year’s squad, along with a pair of key players from the 2014 lineup who redshirted last fall and senior transfer Brie Hooks who was the University of Colorado Female Athlete of the Year and an All-Pac-12 Second Team selection in 2014.
ABOUT THE PILOTS (2-1)
Portland enters the week with a 2-1 record, including wins over Washington (2-1) and Portland State (6-0). Most recently, they fell 2-1 to then No. 21 Cal. Four different Pilots have scored at least once in the early goings of the season. Leading that charge is Hannah Griffiths Boston with four goals. Jess Kennedy has contributed two of the Pilots’ four assists.
SERIES HISTORY VS PORTLAND
Since making the transition to Division I in 2008, the Redhawks are 1-2-1 against the Pilots. The teams last met on Sept. 25, 2014, a match that resulted in a double-overtime draw at Championship Field. Seattle U’s lone win in the series was a big one as the Redhawks knocked off the then No. 8 ranked Pilots, 2-0 on Sept. 2, 2011.
ABOUT THE HUSKIES (2-1)
Washington enters the week riding a two-match win streak and will face Cal Poly on Friday before making the trip to Championship Field on Monday. The Huskies opened the season with a 2-1 setback to Portland, but have responded with a 1-0 win at Tennessee and a 2-1 victory over Santa Clara. Four different players have one goal apiece for UW while Sarah Shimer has played every minute in goal, king eight saves and collecting one shutout.

Seattle U is 0-7-0 all-time against the Huskies. The teams last met on Aug. 28, 2015 - a match that resulted in a 3-0 victory for UW.
