SEATTLE - (Aug. 30) A full slate of matches awaits the Seattle University volleyball team this week as the squad makes its return to the Connolly Complex for the first time since the 2014 season. After spending the 2015 season off site while their home venue was being renovated, the Redhawks are home to co-host the SU/UW Tournament Thursday through Sunday.

Play begins Thursday, Sept. 1 with a big match-up against Washington at 7 p.m. Tournament action continues for SU on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. versus Idaho and Sunday, Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. versus Villanova. The Redhawks conclude a busy six-day stretch with a Tuesday, Sept. 6 meeting with Oregon at 7 p.m.

CONNOLLY COMPLEX RIBBON-CUTTING
Before a single team hits its home hardwood or pitch, the SU Athletics Department will officially celebrate the renovation of the Connolly Complex, including the installation of the Porter Pavilion, named after Chuck and Nancy Porter. Fans are invited and encouraged to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday Sept. 1 prior to SU volleyball hosting crosstown rival Washington at 7 p.m. Led by University President Stephen Sundborg, S.J., the ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m.

FACULTY & STAFF APPRECIATION
Thursday’s volleyball match is Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night. All SU facility and staff in attendance will be recognized during the match, while a limited number of free t-shirts will be distributed to early arrivers. As always, SU faculty and staff receive free admission to the match with a valid SU-ID.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS
• Seattle U opened the season by going 2-1 at the Ultra Ankle Challenge hosted by Oregon State. The Redhawks earned a 3-1 win over Portland and a 3-0 sweep of Utah State before dropping their final match 0-3 to Oregon State.
Matea Mamic and Maja Stojanovic were named to the All-Tournament Team. Mamic leads the Redhawks with 4.22 kps while Stokanovic has added 2.60 kps and 1.30 bps.
• Seattle U was selected third in the 2016 Western Athletic Conference preseason poll.
• 2015 All-WAC selection Matea Mamic was voted to the 14-member Preseason All-WAC Team.
• Head Coach James Finley enters his fourth year at the helm of the program. Under Finley in 2015, the Redhawks had their best season yet, going 18-11 overall and 9-5 in WAC play.
• SU returns seven letterwinners, including four starters.
• The 2016 SU roster has true international flavor as six different countries are represented on the 14-member squad. That includes the United State (five different states), Canada (three different provinces), Serbia, Croatia and Peru.

ABOUT THE HUSKIES (2-0 as of Aug. 30)
Washington enters the week ranked No. 5 in the latest AVCA Top 25 poll. The Huskies are 2-0 with wins at James Madison and at American. Courtney Schwan is averaging 4.25 ops and Tia Scambray adds 3.88 kps.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST WASHINGTON
Seattle U is 0-6 all-time against the Huskies. The teams’ last met during the 2014 season when UW swept the match, 3-0.

ABOUT THE VANDALS (3-0 as of Aug. 30)
Idaho enters the week with an unbeaten 3-0 mark. The Vandals have beaten Fairfield, Abilene Christian and New Mexico to open the 2016 season. Sarah Sharp has led the attack with 3.15 kps. Idaho has averages 2.27 bps compared to their opponents’ 1.46 average.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST IDAHO
Seattle U is 3-4 all-time against the Vandals. Idaho won a hotly contested battle last year in straight sets. SU’s last win in the series came in 2010.

ABOUT THE WILDCATS (2-1 as of Aug. 30)
Villanova enters the week with a 2-1 record including straight-sets wins over Florida Gulf Coast and Ohio. Their lone loss was a 3-0 decision against then No. 22 Western Kentucky. Allie Loltz has paced the Wildcats through their first three matches, averaging 4.33 kps.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST VILLANOVA
This marks the first meeting between SU and Villanova.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (0-2 as of Aug. 30)
Oregon opened the season 0-2, but will play three matches before visiting the Connolly Complex on Tuesday. Both losses came against top 10 opponents including No. 3 Texas and No. 7 Florida.

SERIES HISTORY AGAINST OREGON
Seattle U is 0-6 all-time against the Ducks. Oregon won the last meeting, 3-0, during the 2015 season. The Ducks were ranked 13th in the nation at the time.
