Coaches may not quite get a summer break, but they still find time for fun! See what our Redhawk coaches love about the summer.

Head cross country and track & field coach Trisha Steidl

1) What’s your favorite summertime activity in general? Running in the mountains, here and in other parts of the world, and climbing Rainier.

2) What’s your favorite Seattle-specific summertime activity? BLUE ANGELS at Seafair!!!

3) What’s your favorite thing to grill (or have grilled for you) in the summer? Salmon.

4) How about a side dish? More salmon. If it doesn’t have to be grilled, then probably a big “Steidl salad.” Basically we put a lot of great things in our salad: strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, pine nuts, almonds, pecans, avocados, cheeses…lots of goodies.

5) What was your favorite summer memory from childhood? Long bike rides with my dad on the San Juan Islands. They were hard. We always ate Cheetos and played cards as we waited for the ferry to go home afterwards. And YMCA summer camp. I went to those every year for many years and still have good friends I met through those.

6) If you could go on a camping trip with 3 people (living or deceased), who would you choose? I’m really bad at questions like these! It depends on my mood. Realistically, I’d have the most fun camping with my husband, our dog, Forest, and our friends.

7) What song will be on repeat this summer? I’ve been listening to the latest Silversun Pickups album in my car for the last few months. That’s unlikely to change.

8) What’s your favorite part about SU in the summer? The peacefulness and beauty.

9) Is there a certain place you love to go in the summer? The mountains. Mt. Rainier is the best, but running in the Cascades is wonderful, and I continue to enjoy exploring the Alps.

10) What are you most excited for this fall when students are back on campus? We have a very strong men’s team returning this year for cross country, so I’m excited to see what heights they’ll reach this fall. We have a fairly young women’s team, and I’m equally as excited to see what they’ll achieve. There’s a lot of talent and great people on the team. It’s a great group of young people I’m fortunate to be able to work with day in and day out. My goal is to support each of them in fulfilling their potential and have fun along the way as we all work hard together.
