Coaches may not quite get a summer break, but they still find time for fun! See what our Redhawk coaches love about the summer.
Assistant swim coach Katherine Kubancik –
1) What’s your favorite summertime activity in general? I love going over to Madison Park Beach when the weather is hot and either swimming laps in the roped off area or swimming along the shore. Living in Seattle, swimmers have to get used to swimming inside and starring at a black line for the majority of the year, so when the opportunity comes available to swim in the sun with fish and be able to see other people, it’s pretty thrilling. Sitting at the beach and reading a good book after a hard swim is also a great reward!
2) What’s your favorite thing to grill (or have grilled for you) in the summer? I LOVE grilling in the summertime and will try to exclusively grill while the weather permits. I can grill a mean satay style chicken with grilled naan, cucumber salad, and jasmine rice with peanut sauce. My favorite summertime dessert has to be grilled cinnamon peaches with vanilla ice cream.
3) What was your favorite summer memory from childhood? When I was 7 years old back in Boulder, Colorado, I joined my first swim team. Not only did I find the sport that I am passionate about, but I made lasting memories and amazing friends with all of my teammates. We talk about the good old days every time I go home. My swim team friends are the most fun and dedicated to each other, the stories we share are still unbelievable, and I wouldn’t trade spending every waking moment at the pool with my best friends. Because of the love for the sport that was instilled in me then, I pursued my first coaching job with that club and hopefully helped to make the experiences for those young swimmers just as memorable. #MC4LIFE
