Despite not fielding a varsity football team in its entire 125 year history, Seattle University boasts another alum who signed an NFL contract. Former SU basketball starter Eric Wallace signed a contract with the reigning NFC champion Carolina Panthers, as announced by the organization Monday.

After playing basketball at Ohio State and DePaul, Wallace played for the Redhawks in 2011-12 while pursuing a graduate degree. Upon leaving Seattle U, he pursued playing professional basketball overseas before deciding to play Australian Rules Football, which he has done for the past three seasons.

The Winston-Salem, N.C. native returned home in November 2015, deciding to pursue professional football. He was invited to the New Orleans Saints rookie minicamp before working out for the Panthers.

Wallace is not the first former SU men's basketball player to sign an NFL contract after Ron Howard graduated from Seattle University in the mid-70's and would go on to play for the Dallas Cowboys (1974-75), Seattle Seahawks (1976-78), and Buffalo Bills (1979).
