(SEATTLE) -- Seattle University today announced it is launching a national search for a new athletic director. The university is seeking to have the position filled as soon as possible, with a new director in place before the end of summer. Current Athletic Director Bill Hogan has been named the athletic department’s chief advancement officer.

“Since returning to full Division I status in 2012, Seattle U has won 31 WAC championships, laid a strong foundation under Bill Hogan’s leadership to realize greater success and, most importantly, produced student-athletes who excel in academic achievement,” said President Stephen Sundborg, S.J. “We look forward to building upon this foundation with championship-caliber teams and academically excellent student-athletes across all sports.”

Hogan will serve as the Assistant Vice President for Athletics Advancement, where he will turn his full attention to overseeing the department’s development and fundraising efforts. Associate Athletic Director for Administration Shawn Farrell has agreed to serve as the interim athletic director. Both appointments are effective July 1.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as the Director of Athletics the last 10 years and look forward to a new challenge,” said Hogan. “Moving the program from Division II to D I has been a very rewarding experience because of the student-athletes, coaches, staff, alumni and supporters who have made the transition highly successful. I now look forward to dedicating my time and effort to increasing our donor base and welcoming new friends to the Seattle U athletics family.”

“I am grateful for Bill Hogan’s leadership and all that he has done to get us to this point,” Father Sundborg said. “Bill is a valued member of our Seattle U family and will continue to play a vital role in the future success of our student-athletes and men’s and women’s teams.”

Hogan joined Seattle University as Athletic Director in 2006. Under his leadership, the university returned to NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics, built and strengthened its programs and supported its student-athletes in achieving consistently high academic standards. In his new role, Hogan will be integrally involved in developing new resources and support for the university’s athletics programs.
