For the third consecutive season, when including team sports – men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball, and baseball – Seattle University athletics finishes with the highest score among fellow Western Athletic Conference competitors in the Commissioner’s Cup standings.
“After only four years of NCAA Division I status, it is a remarkable achievement by our coaches and student-athletes to be ranked first among our seven team sports in the WAC Commissioner’s Cup for the third consecutive year,” said Director of Athletics Bill Hogan.
Seattle U received the highest number of possible points among league competitors in 2015-16 in men’s and women’s soccer as well as baseball for winning the regular season title in all three, also winning the tournament championship in men’s soccer.
Including the seven above team sports, Seattle U finished with 43 points in 2015-16 followed by Utah Valley (41.75) and NM State (41.25). In 2014-15, SU led with 43.75 points followed by NM State (35.75) and UMKC (32.25) and in 2013-14, SU topped the team sport standings with 38.25 points ahead of NM State (34) and Utah Valley (32.75).
The Commissioner’s Cup points system is awarded in order of finish, equal to the number of teams that participate in each sport, and are averaged between a team’s regular season and WAC championship finishes. The Cup is eligible only to full conference members but affiliate members’ standings are used for determining points.
