“I’m proud of the way the guys played today,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “We needed everyone to step up and play higher than they’ve been playing due to some late season injuries, and they did just that. We got the important doubles point and then battled tooth and nail in singles. It was a very close and competitive match and I’m happy for the guys to clinch a spot in the semifinals. Now we’ve got to rest and recover for UMKC tomorrow afternoon.”
The Redhawks won the doubles point after winning the No. 3 match by default and John Stormans (Olympia, Wash.) and Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.)’s No. 2 match win. After going up 2-0, earning a point at No. 6 singles, Tanner Berkabile (Las Vegas, Nev.) won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 before Leahy clinched the win with a three-set match at No. 5 singles.
Seattle U advances to the semifinals to face No. 1 UMKC on Saturday, Apr. 30 at 1 p.m. CT/11 a.m. PT.
