The Western Athletic Conference announces the 2016 Tennis All-Conference honors, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches, and Seattle U’s Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.) and Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) have earned All-WAC accolades. Lui was named to the First Team while Woodman was named to the Second Team. The duo also received First Team honors as a doubles pair.

“I’m so happy for and proud of Michelle and Kelli,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “They’re both great student-athletes and wonderful representatives of Seattle U and our tennis program and are very deserving of these honors. Michelle has consistently shown that she is one of the best players in our conference with her results throughout the year. Kelli has been very consistent as well and together they are a great doubles team. They both constantly put in the work to get better and that shows in the results they get.”

A significant part of the team’s success since arriving at Seattle U, Lui was named Freshman of the Year last season and now earns All-Conference honors for the second straight year. She received two of three possible WAC Female Tennis Player of the Month awards this fall (Sept. and Oct. 2015) and was named Player of the Week in mid-January after earning a pair of straight sets singles victories vs. competitors from Colorado State and Air Force.

Woodman earns her third straight All-Conference honor, also a two-time Academic All-WAC honoree. Two summers ago, she advanced to the 2014 ITA Summer Circuit Mountain Region quarterfinals and in summer 2015, she advanced to the title match of the Denver City Open. In January 2016, Woodman received the Rosemary Fri Award, given annually to the most outstanding collegiate female tennis player from or competing in the state of Colorado.

As a doubles team, Woodman and Lui are 21-7 on the year, including 14-4 in spring duals and 4-1 in conference play. The duo also earned All-Conference honors last season.

The Redhawks start competition at the 2016 WAC Championships on Friday, Apr. 29 as they face No. 5 Chicago State at 7 a.m. PT. The men’s team kicks off the weekend, also facing No. 5 Chicago State at 11 a.m. PT on Friday.
