Leading into this weekend’s Western Athletic Conference championships, Seattle University men’s golf was picked to finish third in a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Earlier this season, the Redhawks earned their best finish of the season in second place at Washington State’s Itani Quality Homes Collegiate before finishing fifth more recently in a strong field at their own Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Golf Club.

Seattle U improved significantly between their first and second years in the WAC at the league championship and earned their highest finish to date in third place in 2014-15. SU looks to earn their first conference championship in 2016.

Last year’s second place finisher, UMKC earned all six possible first place votes for 36 points, as teams could not vote for themselves, while reigning champ NM State earned the remaining first place vote. NM State earned 29 points while Seattle U was voted just behind with 28 points. Utah Valley (20), UTRGV (16), CSU Bakersfield (12), and Chicago State (12) rounded out the poll.

The 2016 WAC Men’s Golf Championship starts Saturday, Apr. 30 at 8 a.m. PT at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash. Live stats throughout the weekend can be found by clicking HERE.
