Seattle University baseball’s Nick Meservey (Scottsdale, Ariz.) has been named Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week (Apr. 18-24) after the Redhawks went 3-2 with a win vs. Washington and a WAC series win vs. Utah Valley. This marks the sophomore lefthander’s first career honor.

Meservey picked up his first save of the season on Tuesday in a home game vs. crosstown rival Washington, entering to retire the final two batters with the tying run in scoring position. On Saturday, he returned to the mound and earned the win, striking out eight and allowing just two unearned runs in six innings of work.

With the pitching staff’s lowest ERA, Meservey has a 5-1 record and a 1.21 ERA in 10 starts and 11 appearances with one save. This season, he holds opposing teams to just .191 at the plate.

As a team, Seattle U currently is tied for top spot in the WAC and has completed five straight series wins to open conference play.

The Redhawks return to the Emerald City for a game at Washington on Tuesday, Apr. 26 at 5 p.m. before hosting UT Rio Grande Valley in a three-game series this weekend. Friday and Saturday’s first pitch are scheduled for 5 p.m. with Sunday’s scheduled for 12 noon at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue, Wash.
