Seattle University softball (15-30, 1-11 WAC) tied the game early and attempted a late comeback but errors proved costly as UMKC (21-19, 10-2 WAC) earned a 6-4 win in the series finale.

“It was a rough weekend all around for us,” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “We just need to get back to work this week and finish the regular season strong.”

Sammi Tallman (Reno, Nev.) tied the game, 1-1, in the third on a sac fly as a pinch runner for Sara Dominguez (Santa Ynez, Calif.), who hit a leadoff single.

UMKC would regain the lead in the fourth, scoring an unearned run, and tack on two more in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead, one they would ultimately keep. Alexandra Friloux hit a two-out two-run single up the middle on the first pitch she faced in the seventh to give the ‘Roos a 6-1 lead.

Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) scored in the seventh on a Dominguez infield single before Savannah Loomis (Roseville, Calif.) entered to pinch hit, driving the ball over the right field wall to bring in two on the first pitch she faced. Trailing 6-4, Paige Bouska (Keizer, Ore.) followed with a single but a final groundout ended the Redhawks’ comeback chances.

Bouska and Dominguez each tallied two hits at the plate for SU while Loomis’ home run marked her first of the season.

The Redhawks close the regular season with a three-game series vs. Utah Valley at Logan Field next weekend. First pitch of Friday’s doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. while Saturday’s single game will start at 2 p.m. Stay tuned to @su_athletics on Twitter for any schedule updates due to weather.
