“We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for another phenomenal year of APR scores,” said Erin Engelhardt, Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support. “Our coaches deserve a tremendous amount of credit for building a culture of academic and athletic success at Seattle University.”
Four of Seattle U’s teams – men’s basketball, women’s golf, women’s cross country, and women’s track – received Public Recognition Awards last week for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. Among Public Recognition Award winners, Seattle U led the way in the WAC and had the second highest number of teams named in the state – ahead of Washington (3), Eastern Washington (3), and Washington State (1).
Women’s cross country, women’s golf, and women’s track all had perfect 1000 scores while men’s basketball led the way among men’s teams (998).
Seattle U men’s basketball boasted the highest multi-year APR score in the state of Washington, ahead of Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Washington, and Washington State while 15 of SU’s 20 teams posted a score higher than one or more other schools in the state.
Notably, men’s golf (986), men’s track (991), women’s basketball (987), and women’s track (1000) finished ahead of UW and WSU while women’s swimming also posted the highest score in the state (992). All five Division I women’s cross country teams in the state of Washington earned perfect 1000’s while four of five women’s golf teams earned 1000 ratings.
Among conference contenders, Seattle U led the Western Athletic Conference full members in baseball (978), men’s basketball (998), men’s swimming (991), men’s track (991), softball (990), women’s cross country (1000), women’s golf (1000), and women’s track (1000). SU women’s cross country received the only perfect score in the WAC while women’s golf was one of two perfect scores.
APR annually and nationally recognizes academic achievement calculated for all Division I teams, measuring eligibility, graduation rates, and retention each semester or quarter. The most recent multi-year APR’s factor scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, and 2014-15 academic years. To avoid penalties, multi-year APR scores must be above 930.
