Seattle University women’s tennis (10-12) claimed the doubles point and won four singles matches to earn a 5-2 win vs. Whitman (12-9) in non-conference play.

After the Redhawks clinched the doubles point with two wins, they followed with three straight singles wins to improve to 4-0 and clinch the match. Allie Wallin earned a victory at No. 4 singles for Whitman before Audrey Scott (Austin, Texas) earned a win at No. 5 for the Redhawks. Whitman’s Lori Sheng would finish with a win at No. 6 singles.

“It was an awesome day for college tennis today,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “Whitman is a very good team and gave us all we wanted today. We were missing two of our usual starters, but I’m pleased with the way Audrey [Scott] stepped in and got a singles win and how Kailyn [Skjonsby] stepped in and was right there in her match.”

Prior to the match, the team held a junior tennis clinic for local aspiring tennis players.

“The girls had a blast doing our junior clinic before the match,” Reeb continued. “We thank all our local juniors for coming out and participating and then staying and cheering us on.”

The Redhawks host Idaho next Saturday, Apr. 23 at 11 a.m. in a match at the SU Tennis Courts. In a Senior Day doubleheader with the SU men’s tennis team, the men’s team hosts Linfield later that afternoon (3 p.m.). Both teams head to Texas for the WAC Tournament the following weekend (Apr. 29-May 1).

Reeb concludes, “We’re looking forward to continuing to fine tune our games as we get closer to the WAC Tournament at the end of the month.”
