“I’m so happy for Kelli to receive this recognition,” head coach Adam Reeb said about Woodman. “She is one of the hardest working student-athletes I’ve ever had the pleasure of coaching. She simply had a great week, going unbeaten in singles and doubles against a top-75 team in Cal State Fullerton as well as against three tough conference opponents.”
Woodman earned two two-set victories vs. Chicago State’s Hannah Pangestu and UTRGV’s Dominique Esparza as well as two three-set victories vs. Cal State Fullerton’s Sarah Nuno and NM State’s Chloe Jolliff last week. In doubles play, she and Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) defeated the No. 1 doubles teams from Chicago State, UTRGV, and NM State. The only Redhawk to win all four singles matches, she now has a four-match singles winning streak and has won eight of her last 10 singles matches.
“Kelli is a great leader for us as she puts in the time to make herself and her teammates better. Team success is paramount to her. I’m proud she received this individual honor for last week as she certainly deserved it.”
An international business major, Woodman also excels in the classroom with a 3.417 cumulative GPA.
After finishing league play in Chicago last weekend, the Redhawks return home to close the regular season hosting a pair of non-conference foes in Whitman (Saturday, Apr. 16 – 3 p.m.) and Idaho (Saturday, Apr. 23 – 11 a.m.). The SU men’s and women’s tennis teams head to the WAC Tournament in Edinburg, Texas at the end of April (Apr. 29-May 1).
