Despite Seattle University women’s tennis falling 6-1 to NM State in their Western Athletic Conference regular season finale, Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.) earned a team point for the Redhawks, collecting her third straight win of the weekend. Woodman and doubles partner Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) also collected three wins in doubles play this weekend.

“New Mexico State is a very strong team and showed why they are the defending WAC champions,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “We played without Madison [Maloney] today but I was pleased with the production we got from Audrey [Scott] and Kailyn [Skjonsby] stepping in in singles and doubles, respectively.”

Lui and Woodman started doubles play with a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles but the Aggies would follow with two straight 6-2 victories to earn the first point. NMSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead, winning the first five singles matches to finish, before Woodman finished the match with a three-set victory in the No. 2 spot over Chloe Jolliff.

“Kelli capped a phenomenal week with getting both doubles and singles victories today after going unbeaten all week. The difference in our team from the beginning of the fall until now is huge. The girls have been putting in the work and it’s really shown.”

The Redhawks return home for a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, Apr. 16 vs. Whitman and Saturday, Apr. 23 vs. Idaho, both at the SU Tennis Courts, to close the regular season.

“We were hoping to get more WAC regular season wins, but we’ve shown that we’re right there with all these schools. We hope to put everything together and peak in the conference tournament, which is most important. We’ve got to get healthy and keep improving over the next few weeks before the WAC Tournament. We’re excited to get back to Seattle for a couple home matches as we continue to hone our game.”

At the end of April, SU men’s and women’s tennis and the other four eligible teams – Grand Canyon, NM State, UMKC, and UTRGV – advance to the WAC Tournament in Edinburg, Texas.
