Seattle University women’s tennis (8-10) came within two points of Cal State Fullerton (15-3) early in singles play but ultimately dropped the match, 6-1, in non-conference competition.

“It was great getting to compete outside on campus today,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “Cal State Fullerton is a strong team who has been nationally ranked this year. I thought we played the right way today, though, and was pleased with our effort even in the loss. We committed to a certain style and focused on executing that to the best of our abilities. I like the way we’re playing heading into another WAC cluster weekend. If we stay committed to our game style and focus on what we can control, we’ll be happy with the way our upcoming weekend goes.”

After Cal State Fullerton earned the doubles point and took a 3-0 lead through the first two singles matches to finish, Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.) earned a three-set victory to bring the Redhawks within two, 3-1. CSU Fullerton would finish with three straight singles victories, including a three-set match at No. 1 singles.

Seattle U heads to Chicago, Ill. this weekend to face Chicago State (Apr. 1), UTRGV (Apr. 2), and NM State (Apr. 3) to close conference play. They will return home to host Whitman (Apr. 16) and Idaho (Apr. 23) to complete the regular season before the WAC Tournament at UTRGV from Apr. 29-May 1.
