Seattle University softball (13-19) picked up a win over San Diego (12-21), 3-1, in their first game before dropping the day’s second game, 6-3, to host UCSB (17-15).

After three scoreless innings in game one vs. San Diego, the Redhawks surrendered a run in the bottom of the fourth on a throwing error by the SU infield but would gain the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fifth as Kaylee Ree (Gresham, Ore.) would come around to score on a wild pitch after driving in a run on a triple.

SU tacked on an insurance run to lead, 3-1, which would prove to be the final tally, on a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

In game two vs. UCSB, the Gauchos took a 2-0 lead in the first before Seattle U tied it, 2-2, in the top of the second on a two-RBI homer from Kayla Shuster-Gonzales (Escondido, Calif.). The Gauchos regained the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the frame on a two-out two-RBI Jessica Johnston single. SU cut their deficit to one, 4-3, as Ree scored on another wild pitch, but UCSB scored two more in the fourth and held off the Redhawks for the remainder.

Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) earned her second win of the weekend in a complete-game outing, tallying nine strikeouts. San Diego’s Megan Sabbatini suffered the loss, allowing two runs and walking one. In game two, Ashley Ludlow picked up the win for UCSB, striking out six in seven innings pitched while Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) suffered the loss in a start for SU.
