After winning the doubles point, Seattle University played a close, hard-fought match with UMKC but ultimately ended just short, dropping the match 4-3 in Western Athletic Conference play.

“Our doubles was really good today,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “We played aggressive and smart tennis on all the courts. Singles was a dog fight but we came up short. I’m proud of Tanner [Berkabile] and Connor [Leahy] for pulling through their long, grinding three-set matches. It’s disappointing to lose but we’re right there. We’re looking forward to finishing the weekend on a strong note tomorrow vs. UTRGV.”

The Redhawks took the first two doubles matches to finish to clinch the first point and take a 1-0 lead into singles but UMKC would fight back, winning four straight singles matches to take a 4-1 lead and clinch the match.

After the match was decided, Tanner Berkabile (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) won tough, three-set matches in the No. 2 and No. 5 spots to pull SU within one, 4-3.

Seattle U closes their first weekend of conference competition with a 9 a.m. match vs. UTRGV on Saturday, Mar. 26 in Las Cruces, N.M.
