After helping the Seattle University baseball team pick up two victories over the University of Minnesota last week, junior third baseman Brock Carpenter (Milton, Wash.) has been named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com.

In last Friday’s 13-3 victory over the Gophers, Carpenter went 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and two RBI. He led off the fourth inning with a walk and scored the go-ahead run, followed by a solo home run in the seventh inning and a sacrifice fly that drove in another run in the eighth inning to help break the game open. In the fifth inning of Saturday’s game, Carpenter hit a two-out, two-run double to give Seattle U the lead for good.

So far this season, Carpenter has started all 15 games for the Redhawks, batting .292 with 14 hits, including four doubles and a home run, and 11 runs batted in, tied for second on the team. Last season, Carpenter led Seattle U with five home runs, plus he drew 27 walks and drove in 31 runs as the Redhawks won 31 games and advanced to the title game of the WAC Baseball Tournament.

“Brock has been a great role model for our younger players. He goes about his business on and off the field each day and really shines in our community service projects. He is a big part of the growth our program has made since showing up here 3 years ago and will be a cornerstone for our success this season," Seattle U head baseball coach Donny Harrel said,.

In the classroom, Carpenter currently carries a 3.481 grade point average as a sport and exercise science major. He is a two-time Academic All-WAC honoree, and he has been an active participant in several of the baseball team’s community service projects.

Seattle University brings an 11-4 record in Wednesday’s series finale against Minnesota at 5 p.m. at Bannerwood Park. The Redhawks then head to UC Irvine to face the Anteaters in a three-game series over the weekend, the final non-conference weekend series of the season for Seattle U.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
