After helping Seattle University earn two victories over Big Ten school Minnesota last week, junior shortstop Griffin Andreychuk (Nanaimo, B.C.) has been named the Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, announced Monday morning by the league office.
In the two games the Redhawks played against the Gophers, Andreychuk went 5-for-6 with a walk, a sacrifice bunt, and a hit-by-pitch. Friday, he went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, and then he followed that with a 3-for-4 performance Saturday, including a triple and two-out single in the first inning that drove in two runs to tie the game at 2-2.
For the season, Andreychuk is now batting .306 with 15 hits, including two doubles and two triples, 10 runs scored, and 11 runs batted in. Thanks to seven walks, his on-base percentage is .414, and his slugging percentage is .429.
Seattle University (10-4) is scheduled to face Minnesota again Monday, March 14, at 3 p.m. at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue. Any changes due to weather will be announced on GoSeattleU.com as well as on the Twitter feeds for both Seattle U Athletics (@su_athletics) and Seattle U Baseball (@SU_Baseball).
