The Seattle University women’s golf team improved its team score in the second and final round of the Fresno State Classic Tuesday, finishing in 10th place in the tournament held at the San Joaquin Country Club.
For the second straight day, Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) was steady throughout her round, collecting one birdie and 14 pars to shoot another 74 (+2), ending the tournament in a tie for 12th place at 148 (+4). She finished in a tie for second among the 82-player field with 28 pars, and she tied for seventh in par-three scoring at even par.
Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) earned three birdies over her first eight holes, and then enjoyed a seven-hole stretch of pars as she shot 74 (+2), finishing in a tie for 25th place at 150 (+6). Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden collected two birdies and 12 pars as she also shot 74 (+2), completing the tournament in a tie for 36th place at 152 (+8).
Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) earned one birdie and 12 pars during her final round as she shot 78 (+6) to finish in a tie for 50th place at 155 (+11). Linette Chua (Singapore) improved from the first day to the second, picking up four birdies on her way to a second round score of 79 (+7) for a two-day total of 161 (+17), finishing in a tie for 69th place.
As a team, Seattle U shaved five strokes off its first round score, shooting 300 (+12) in the second round for a 36-hole total of 605 (+29), landing in 10th place by 12 strokes over Big Ten school Rutgers. Fresno State defended its home course, winning by eight strokes over Boise State, with Annie Freman of Santa Clara earning a three-stroke victory with a final score of 136 (+8).
Seattle University will take a couple of weeks off before playing in the Sacramento State Invitational March 21-22 at the Sierra View Country Club in Roseville, Calif.
