After waiting out a rain delay, the Seattle University women’s golf team completed the first round of the Fresno State Classic in ninth place Monday at the San Joaquin Country Club.

Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) led the Redhawks with a steady round Monday, collecting one birdie and 14 pars on her way to a 74 (+2), currently in a tie for 12th place. Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) closed out the first round with two birdies over her final five holes, finishing with a 76 (+4) to move into a tie for 27th place.

Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) earned birdies on three of the four par-three holes during her circuit, shooting 77 (+5) to end the day in a tie for 38th place. Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) is in a tie for 48th place after an opening-round 78 (+6), and Linette Chua (Singapore) is in a tie for 75th place with a first round score of 82 (+10).

As a team, Seattle U combined to shoot 305 (+17) for ninth place, just three strokes behind Portland State and still within striking distance of the top five. Host school Fresno State posted the only team round under par at 286 (-2) to take a seven-stroke lead over Boise State. Annie Freman of Santa Clara leads the individual standings at five-under-par 67 by one stroke.

The rain delay forced the tournament to be shortened to 36 holes, with the second and final round scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring is available at http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=8570.
